Time-Critical

Urgent Freight Between Mexico and the USA: Air NFO, Expedited Ground or Charter?

When a shipment cannot wait, which option fits? Compare air Next Flight Out, expedited ground, hand-carry and charter by speed, capacity and cost.

A stopped production line, a missing part for a repair, a delivery that a customer will not accept late: urgent freight is not about finding the cheapest option, it is about finding the fastest option that actually works for your cargo. Here is how the main time-critical services compare.

First, put a number on the delay

Before comparing prices, estimate what each hour of delay costs: idle labor, penalties, lost sales, or a line that cannot restart. Expedited services cost more than standard freight, and the decision gets easy when you know what the delay costs.

Expedited ground

A dedicated vehicle, such as a sprinter, cargo van, truck or full trailer, picks up your cargo and drives it straight to the destination. No consolidation, no waiting for a schedule.

  • Strengths: door-to-door, flexible size and weight, no airport constraints, and often the best option on regional and cross-border corridors where the drive is a day or less.
  • Limits: driving time still applies, so very long distances are slower than flying.

Air Next Flight Out (NFO)

NFO moves your shipment on the next available commercial flight. Within Mexico it is called national NFO, and international NFO connects the fastest available airline routes worldwide.

  • Strengths: the fastest option over long distances, with wide airline coverage.
  • Limits: airlines set the size and weight limits. For example, on our national NFO service the maximum is 150 kg per item. Pickup, airport handling and delivery need to be coordinated, and international shipments need customs documents ready before the flight.

OBC (hand carry)

With On-Board Courier, a courier personally accompanies the shipment on a commercial flight, from pickup to final delivery.

  • Strengths: continuous supervision and the fastest human-carried transit.
  • Best for: small, high-value or extremely urgent items such as critical components or engineering samples.

Charter

A charter is a dedicated aircraft for your cargo.

  • Strengths: immediate departures, custom routing and flexible payload, which makes it the answer for oversized cargo or when commercial schedules and capacity cannot meet the requirement.
  • Limits: it is the most expensive option, justified when the cost of the delay is higher.

Comparison

Option Speed Size and weight Typical use
Expedited ground Fast on short and medium distances Flexible, from small vans to full trailers Regional and cross-border emergencies
Air NFO Fastest over long distances Limited by airline rules Spare parts, components, urgent equipment
OBC Fastest, with a courier on board Small items High-value or critical items
Charter Immediate, on your schedule Large or oversized Production line emergencies, project cargo
